Care Guide for Latex Garments
Care Guide for Latex Garments
Latex is a natural based product and should be treated with care. The following items wil damage, stain and prematurely age latex sheeting, please try to avoid them coming into contact woith your latex clothing:
- Sunlight - avoid prolonged exposure
- Moisture - avoid prolonged exposure
- Oils and greases - beware oil based body products like makeup etc.
- Solvents - includes nail polish remover
- Heat - excessive heat will damage latex clothing. Beware: Latex burns so please be careful around naked flames, cigarettes etc.
- Be very careful with sharp objects, including jewelery and even fingernails as they can easilly scratch or tear your latex garment.
Cleaning
Never machine wash, tumble dry or iron latex. Wherever possible, wash latex garments by hand in clean warm water only. Massage the surface of the latex very gently with your finger tips to remove any marks. Ensure you wash inside and outside the garment and rinse in clean water.
Shake of excess water and hang to drip dry. Once dry, turn inside out to ensure both sides are completely dry before storing.
Stubborn marks may be removed with a little mild soap, but be careful to avoid products containing oils. Always rinse several times in clean water.
Some colours of latex clothing may take on a noticeable milky or cloudy appearance when washed. This will disappear as the rubber dries.
Storage
Store in a dark dry place away from strong heat. Ensure latex garments are totally dry before storage and preferably, lightly powder the insides to prevent the latex from sticking to itself.
Shining Latex Rubber
Most people prefer their latex clothing to look shiny, though this is a matter of personal preference. Remember that getting a good shine on your latex garments requires patience, a gentle touch and practice. The longer you have your garments and the more often they are shined, the shinier they will become.
To create the effects seen in the best latex rubber photography, the natural gloss of the latex should be enhanced by the use of a silicone based polish spray such as Edenwear Super Shiner. Do not use household polishes on latex rubber clothing as most will damage the sheen and even deteriorate the latex. Oil based products should especially be avoided
Use a soft cloth when polishing your latex garments as an abrassive cloth could scracth the surface.
For the first treatment, use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the entire garment. Wipe down the glued seams where the talcum powder is sitting to get rid of the white seam lines. Apply Edenwear Super Shiner to another cloth and wipe the garment evenly and then let it sit until almost all the liqued has been absorbed into the latex. Flip the garment and then repeat on the other side. You do not need to wipe off the shining agent – merely spread it araound. Do not rub hard. At best you will wipe away the shine and at worst, damage the surface of the latex. You will need to check your work under good lighting conditions and do touch-ups as required. It may take two or three treatments to achieve a nice shiny, mirror-like finish to your garments.
